If you aren’t willing to put the effort in, you have no right to complain about what doesn’t change.
For example I spent 8 months on a very restrictive diet and lost 50 lbs. I got tired and quit. Went back to my old eating habits and now I am 25lbs into gaining every bit of it back.
But I am not going to complain. I am the one who refuses to go back on the diet and put the effort into changing my eating habits for the better. That is on me. I will own it no matter how much the stress eating weight gain makes me feel sad.
The same can be applied to your business. If you are not willing to put in the effort to learn how to work in manual, to take the courses to help you learn why your skin tones are off or to take your lens to be calibrated if you think your images are too soft, then you have no right to complain about the rut you are stuck in.
There are no quick fixes in life. There is no preset or action that will make your images the caliber of what someone else shoots. That someone else has worked and learned and tweaked and bled into what has made them the artist that they are. They then made the decision to market and profit off of their had work.
The work has to be done to get results. I may have been shooting since 1994 but I have only been shooting digital for three years. I have only been working in Photoshop for 8 months. My images are constantly evolving and it’s because of the effort I put into it.
If I put half as much effort into what I need to do on a business level, I would be so much more sought out than I am now. But, I accept the fact that I don’t. Until it becomes all about the business for me, it’s going to continue to be all about the image. Each individual image.
So, put up or shut up!
It’s not the tech all the time, it’s not the preset, it’s not the gear. It’s the EFFORT that will get you where you want to go.
Apply that to your photography and your life. See if it changes things. I am working on it more myself.
